Charlie Nicholas has said on The Arsenal Lounge that Arsenal central defender Rob Holding is not good enough for the Gunners.

The former Arsenal striker has also said that the Gunners should have sold right-back Hector Bellerin long ago.

The former Sky Sports pundit is not a fan of another Arsenal player, Calum Chambers, who can play as a right-back or as a centre-back.

Nicholas said on The Arsenal Lounge: “Rob Holding, as honest as the day is long, but I am sorry, he is not good enough to be a main principle consistent centre-back for Arsenal.

“How we have persisted with Hector Bellerin for so long is beyond me. Chambers is another guy who is whole-hearted, but he has been at more clubs than I have, and I am talking about nightclubs.”

Does Charlie Nicholas have a point?

Chambers, Bellerin and Holding all are long-serving players at Arsenal.

Only Bellerin has played consistently and has actually done well – at least relatively.

Chambers is a good utility player who can provide cover at right-back or centre-back.

The 26-year-old has scored six goals in 151 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

Holding is 25 and has had injury problems.

The Englishman has played 71 matches in the Premier League.

Spanish right-back Bellerin has really not looked at his best since his injury problems and has scored eight goals in 183 Premier League games.

Holding, Chambers and Bellerin are not exactly world-class defenders, but Arsenal are not in a position now to have world-class players in their squad.

The Gunners are not competing for the Premier League title and are not even in the Europa League anymore.
