Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira is hoping to sign Eddie Nketiah from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal before the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday, according to The Sun.

What’s the story?

The Sun have reported that Palace are willing to spend £12 million in transfer fee to sign Nketiah from Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The Gunners have been looking for £20 million for the former Leeds United loanee, but Palace are hopeful of finding a middle ground.

Vieira, an Arsenal legend, has been looking to sign the 22-year-old striker ever since he was appointed as the Palace boss.

Palace do have a fall-back option if they are unable to sign Nketiah.

The Sun have claimed that the Eagles have also made a bid for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.

Would Eddie Nketiah make Palace better?

Nketiah is only 22 years of age and is still growing and developing as a footballer.

The striker did not do much of note during his loan spell at Leeds, and he has not been able to play week in and week out for Arsenal.

The Englishman is actually injured at the moment and will not be back in training until early September.

Palace could do with more firepower upfront, but perhaps they should look at signing a more established and proven striker.

After all, Nketiah has played only 38 matches in the Premier League so far in his career, scoring five goals in the process.
