Manchester United are planning to make a late move for Arsenal target Kieran Trippier, according to AS (print edition, page 14, August 28, 2021).
What’s the story?
AS (print edition, page 14, August 28, 2021) have reported that Premier League giants United are planning to make a bid for former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Trippier in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are keen on the Atletico Madrid defender as well, but it is United who are leading the race for the England international, according to the report.
La Liga champions Atletico will not sell the 30-year-old for anything less than €40 million (£34.28m).
In regard to United, we should also point out that journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that the defender will not join them, as Diogo Dalot is set to stay unless the Red Devils receive “unexpected proposals”.
Arsenal transfer unlikely
Arsenal could do with a new right-back this summer.
Hector Bellerin does not seem to be the player he was, while Trippier is at the top of his game and is still going strong despite being 30.
However, it is hard to see the Gunners cough up €40 million (£34.28m) for a 30-year-old.
Moreover, Trippier is a former Tottenham player and is a United fan.
Arsenal are unlikely to even challenge for the Champions League places in the Premier League table this season.
Trippier won the La Liga title with Atletico last season.
Atletico also play in the Champions League year after year.
