Slavisa Jokanovic believes Daniel Jebbison may be a future England international as the Premier League sides Everton and Leeds United circle for the Sheffield United striker, as he told Yorkshire Live.

When Sunderland made a bid to sign one of the EFL’s hottest prospects on loan a few weeks ago, they probably didn’t expect to find themselves in a transfer battle with Marcelo Bielsa and Rafa Benitez heading into the final few days of the window.

But according to TEAMtalk – in claims backed up by The Athletic – Everton have submitted an opening bid of £5 million for Jebbison with Leeds, Aston Villa and Brentford also sniffing around.

While Jokanovic was willing to let the Canada-born 18-year-old leave Bramall Lane on a temporary basis – Jebbison is behind Oli McBurnie, Billy Sharp and Rhian Brewster in the Sheffield United pecking order – a permanent departure is another matter entirely.

Will Daniel Jebbison be allowed to leave the Blades?

“He is a very good prospect as a football player and a very good worker,” the former Watford and Fulham boss said following the 2-1 EFL Cup victory over Derby County in midweek.

“He is really healthy and I’m sure he will be an important player in the Premier League and the Championship and the England national team – why not?”

Back in May, Jebbison became the youngest player ever to score on his full debut in England’s top flight, against Everton funnily enough.

If the Toffees weren’t keeping tabs on the teenage striker before that 1-0 home defeat to a bottom-of-the-table Blades side, they most certainly have been afterwards.

And with good reason. Jebbison’s winner at Goodison Park summed up everything that is good about the U18 international; intelligent movement followed by a finish of such poise and self-confidence for one so young.

Leeds, meanwhile, already have an England striker in their ranks. Patrick Bamford’s superb form was rewarded – at last, you could argue – with a maiden call-up on Thursday.
