Nuno’s Tottenham Hotspur could make a bid for Chelsea target and Barcelona midfielder Ilaix Moriba in the next few hours, according to Mundo Deportivo.

What’s the story?

Mundo Deportivo reported late last night (11:21pm) that Tottenham are keen on signing Moriba from Barcelona before the summer transfer window closes next week.

Chelsea have been following the 18-year-old central midfielder, but Spurs have reached an agreement with the youngster over personal terms.

Now, Spurs need to convince Barcelona to sell them a player who has been compared to Manchester United and France international midfielder Paul Pogba.

La Liga giants Barcelona are willing to sell the youngster, but they want €20 million (£17.16m) as transfer fee.

Coup for Tottenham Hotspur?

If Tottenham are able to secure the services of Moriba, then it would be a huge coup for the North London outfit, not least because of the clubs who have been linked with the Barcelona youngster.

90min reported earlier this month interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United among other clubs in the youngster.

Denis Silva Puig, who coached Moriba on Barcelona’s Juvenil A team, told Bleacher Report in October 2019: “I remember first seeing him when he [was about nine years old], he was very elastic.

“It was obvious he was better than the others even though he was already playing with boys a year older—the movements he made, the way he cut inside.

“He’s physically very strong, but he’s also a very intelligent player. Most people don’t appreciate this.

“Here he’s called the ‘[Paul] Pogba of Barca’ because he’s like a young Pogba, but also he is very, very intelligent—and that is his big potential. He is a top player, no doubt.”

Pogba is one of the best midfielders in the world, and if Spurs are able to get a younger version of the Frenchman ahead of the other clubs, then it would be a big coup indeed.
