Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to do business with Real Madrid again, according to Tuttomercatoweb, as Alvaro Odriozola emerges as a target for the Premier League giants.

In the last 18 months or so, Spurs have become to Real Madrid what Everton are to Barcelona.

While Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes have been revitalised at Goodison Park, Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale enjoyed a new lease of life after swapping the Spanish capital for North London.

And, three years after joining Los Blancos from Real Sociedad for a staggering £30 million, the seldom-seen Odriozola could soon be reunited with Reguilon on British soil.

Is Alvaro Odriozola the latest Real Madrid benchwarmer on his way to Spurs?

An ambitious Fiorentina outfit were expected to seal a season-long loan deal for the Spain international right-back.

But, according to both Tuttomercatoweb and the Florence-based Firenze Viola, sudden interest from Spurs has complicated matters.

It is understood that Fiorentina would struggle to match Odriozola’s £60,000-a-week wages too.

So the ball is in Daniel Levy’s court. If he makes an offer Real Madrid deem acceptable, then the 13-time European champions are very unlikely to stand in Odriozola’s way.

The athletic, attack-minded 25-year-old has not come close to living up to lofty expectations at the Santiago Bernabau.

He’s started just 25 La Liga games since his 2018 arrival – most of those coming when Dani Carvajal was unavailable due to injury.

A loan spell at Bayern Munich didn’t go to plan either, the full-back best remembered in Germany for a mistimed tackle which broke the ankle of team-mate Ivan Perisic during a training session.

Madrid invested £30 million in Odriozola for a reason though and he is not the first player to struggle in European football’s most glaring goldfish bowl. Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael Van der Vaart and more came back stronger after leaving Real.

According to TMW, Tottenham have identified Odriozola as a replacement for the wantaway Serge Aurier.
