Some Liverpool fans are calling on Jurgen Klopp to bring Thiago back into his first XI for Saturday’s visit of European champions, Chelsea.
Anfield plays host to a massive game this weekend as Thomas Tuchel’s side visit Merseyside.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea have won their opening two Premier League games this season and therefore something has to give.
The Reds go into the clash on the back of a win over Burnley last time around, with Jurgen Klopp fielding a new-look midfield of Naby Keita, Harvey Elliott and Jordan Henderson.
Fabinho was sidelined for personal reasons, while Thiago, a £20 million signing by Michael Edwards last summer, returned to Liverpool with a slight injury that he sustained with Spain at Euro 2020.
It would be a shock if Elliott keeps his place in Klopp’s midfield, by virtue of the fact that he’s only 18 – and a difficult evening against the Champions League winners could damage his confidence.
Thiago did come off the bench and impressed against Burnley last weekend – and some Liverpool fans would like to see the 30-year-old back in midfield against the Londoners. Here’s what a bunch of them are saying on Twitter:
Keita undroppable
Keita is the midfielder most similar to Thiago and therefore the most likely to drop to the bench if the Spaniard does come back into the team.
But dropping the former Red Bull Leipzig star would be a tad harsh, it has to be said.
Keita has started and impressed in both of Liverpool’s league games this season and really, he has done nothing to warrant being benched.
