Mark Lawrenson has shared an insight into what his close friend David Moyes told him about Jesse Lingard at West Ham.
The Anfield legend shared that Moyes would tell him that the Manchester United star ‘enjoys his life’ and when they signed him in January, they got him at ‘absoutley the right time’, as he told Off the Ball.
Lingard is seemingly set to stay at Manchester United this summer, despite his fruitful and goal-crazy spell at West Ham towards the back end of the last campaign.
Of course, many West Ham supporters would like the Englishman back on their books, especially with Moyes needing depth ahead of their European fixtures.
But Lawrenson shared that Moyes wants to take Lingard back and how he lifted the place in East London when he joined during the winter transfer window.
“He’s not going to start at Manchester United, is he?” said Lawrenson. “I think it’s one of those if you ring up Ole today, it will be like ‘well, he played yesterday and he’s part of my plans’.
“I am sure Moyes would take him. Although, he did say that they got him at absolutely the right time. I said ‘what do you mean?’.
“He said ‘well, he enjoys his life’. I thought it was a great statement. He said ‘well, it was lockdown and COVID’.
“He basically came into training then he went back to his apartment and that’s where he was. I thought that was a modern insight into the way some of the footballers are. He would take him because he said ‘he was like a breath of fresh air’.”

If Lingard is being offered regular game time at Old Trafford then it’s going to be difficult to lure him away from his boyhood club again.
Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, this is the best period Manchester United are going through with many thinking they can win the Premier League title.
That’s something Lingard hasn’t done in Man United’s colours, so if he’s told that he is part of their plans then it’s going to be difficult to see him leave.
But from West Ham’s perspective, with deadline day looming, they don’t have much to lose in regards to them dipping their hands into Man United’s waters and seeing what type of response they get.
