Grieving TikToker Amanda Webb took to the platform to share the touching story of her late father. Little did she know, iconic The Princess Bride actor, Mandy Patinkin, would have some words of wisdom, detailing the loss of his own father.
Webb said that she resonated with the line: “I want my father back, you son of a b**ch.”
TikToker shares story of the loss of her father
TikToker @alaska_webb took to the short-form video sharing app to detail what it felt like to lose her beloved father.
Webb told audiences how her dad had sadly passed from cancer earlier in the year. She then went on to express her father’s love for the movie, The Princess Bride. One line, in particular, had really resonated with Webb: “I want my father back, you son of a b**ch.”
Social media can be very powerful and, as luck would have it, Mandy Patinkin, AKA Inigo Montoya, came across the video.
Like a father figure, Patinkin took to social media to share his words of wisdom: “First of all, your dad has taken care of you. Secondly, it is true, 100 percent true.
“I went outside of this castle and walked around the [maze] And I kept talking to my dad and I said, ‘Dad, I’m going to get this guy.’ From the minute I read the script, I knew, I said to Kath, ‘I’m going to do this part’.
“Because in my mind, if I get this six-fingered guy, that means I killed the cancer that killed my dad and I’ll get to visit my dad.
“And so you can talk to your dad anytime you want, anywhere you want.”
Who was Mandy Patinkin’s father?
Reportedly, Patinkin’s father was a man named Lester Don Patinkin.
Unlike Mandy, Lester wasn’t one for show business and, instead, operated two large metal factories, the People’s Iron & Metal Company and the Scrap Corporation of America.
Actor shares advice on Twitter
Patinkin’s wise words didn’t stop on TikTok, the actor also took to Twitter to continue a thread of advice.
The 68-year-old wrote: “To Alaska (aka Amanda – we figured it out!) Thread – Thank you for sharing this with us. My dad died of cancer when I was 18. Kathryn’s parents died within a year of each other when she was 25, her dad of a heart attack while her mom was sick with cancer….
“The loss of them has been a huge part of our lives and a huge part of what forged our bond together. We are so sorry for your loss, so moved that this movie meant something to you and your dad and so glad you asked this question….
“We hope you find all kinds of ways to keep the memory of him alive and all kinds of ways to move forward & through this pain and loss. Please let us know his name. As Kathryn Mentioned http://thedinnerparty.org can be a great resource for 20 & 30 somethings who’ve experienced loss.”
