Aston Villa striker Wesley is set to leave the club before the transfer deadline for a move back to Belgium with Club Brugge.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Villa have given their blessing to Wesley heading back to his former club.
VIlla paid £22million to sign Wesley from Club Brugge following their promotion in 2019, believing he could become a Premier League star.
The Brazilian striker had hit 30 goals in his final two seasons with Club Brugge, proving himself as a big and physical yet mobile centre forward.
Wesley didn’t quite shine in the Premier League though, scoring just five league goals in his first season before going down with a major knee injury.
Only able to make three Premier League appearances last season, the 24-year-old needs playing time in order to try and get back to his best.
With Danny Ings now on board to help Ollie Watkins, that just isn’t going to happen Aston Villa, and Wesley hopes to rejoin Club Brugge inside the next 48 hours.
Villa will hope that this doesn’t leave them short of options up top this season, and also hope that Wesley fires in Belgium, giving himself a chance to shine for Villa next term.
