Reported Celtic target M’Baye Niang could remain at Stade Rennais this summer despite plenty of interest in the attacker.

According to Foot Mercato, the 26-year-old striker ‘could stay’ with the Brittany side this window after months of speculation. As well as Celtic, the likes of Venezia, Nantes and Turkish side Antalyaspor have all been chasing Niang.

The forward, who earlier in his career was compared to Mario Balotelli as per Four Four Two, looked set to depart France after falling out of the first team for Rennes.

Celtic had been a side keen to bring the striker to Scotland, but now, things appear to have changed.

Although there is a week of the transfer window left, Niang looks to be a forward that the Hoops won’t be signing anytime soon.

Indeed, reports seem to suggest that VVV-Venlo star Giorgos Giakoumakis is Celtic’s top priority for the striker position.

The Greek international was the Eredivisie’s top scorer last season. However, with Venlo being relegated to the second-tier, the Dutch club are eager to offload the attacker, whose contract expires next summer.

With Werder Bremen reportedly out of the race for Giakoumakis, Celtic are in the clear to sign the 26-year-old attacker, who could sign for as little as £3m if reports are to be believed.
