The 2021 Met Gala is fast approaching, and everyone is getting excited for the prestigious fashion event.

Since 1948, the event has taken place every year on the first Monday in May, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, both the 2020 and 2021 gala were delayed.

The 2021 Met Gala has now got a new date of September 13th, and as usual, the charity event will take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

This means it coincides with the end of New York Fashion Week, and it’s set to be one of the biggest Met Gala’s ever.

If you don’t want to miss out on all the action, here’s exactly how to watch it.

How to watch the Met Gala 2021

The Met Gala is not televised. However, there is always a live red carpet event that covers all the celebrities arriving at the gala.

News channel E! usually offers extensive coverage of the event. One of their reporters is always live on the red carpet greeting and interviewing celebrities, so that is the best place to watch the gala.

Simply tune into the E! network on September 13th at around at around 5pm, which is when coverage usually starts. Celebrity arrivals then begin from around 6pm, and the show continues until all the guests are inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Vogue, who hosts the event alongside Anna Wintour also post live coverage on their website, and one of the best places to find red carpet coverage is always Twitter.

What is the Met Gala 2021 theme?

Every year, the Met Gala has a specific theme, and every guest has to wear something inspired by it. However this year, it’s a little different.

The 2021 theme is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” which is actually an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that will open in the Anna Wintour Costume Center on September 18th.

Celebrities will still have to wear clothing related to the exhibition, which celebrates American fashion and commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Costume Institute.

The Costume Institute’s head creator Andrew Bolton told Vogue he chose the theme because:

“The American fashion community has been supporting us for 75 years, really since the beginning of the Costume Institute, so I wanted to acknowledge its support, and also to celebrate and reflect upon American fashion.”

“I’ve been really impressed by American designers’ responses to the social and political climate, particularly around issues of body inclusivity and gender fluidity, and I’m just finding their work very, very self-reflective,” he continued.
