*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead season 11, episode 1*
Following the Covid-interrupted release of season 10, The Walking Dead hopes to return to a degree of normality in season 11, or as normal as you can get for a show about a zombie-ridden post-apocalyptic world.
The new season premiered on AMC in the US on August 22nd and fans have instantly turned their attention to what comes next following a dramatic cliffhanger ending.
But just when is episode 2 of The Walking Dead season 11 airing on AMC and did you know that you can actually watch the second episode already?
The Walking Dead season 11 episode 1 recap
Season 11 of The Walking Dead premiered on AMC with episode 1 on Sunday, August 22nd, 2021.
Titled Acheron: Part I, the episode begins with Daryl, Maggie and the gang on a critical food mission to replenish Alexandria’s dwindling supplies but it quickly becomes clear that what they have isn’t enough.
Maggie proposes to scavenge what food is remaining at her old group’s former HQ and even though the plan is branded a suicide mission, the gang don’t have much choice.
While traversing the remains of DC, the group – which consists of Daryl, Dog, Maggie, Negan and tag-alongs Gabriel, Alden, Gage and C. Thomas Howell as Roy – get caught in a fierce storm and seek shelter in the subway where they continue their journey.
Meanwhile, the episode also catches back up with Eugene, Ezekial, Yumiko and Princess who are being interrogated by Mercer, the leader of the stormtrooper-esque soldiers we first saw in season 10.
Back in the subway tunnels, Maggie’s food-hunting party discovers a mass grave of walkers and tension arises as several members of the group want to head back, including Negan who suspects that Maggie wants him dead.
However, before the matter is resolved, the gang is attacked by a fresh batch of walkers and the group are forced to flee on top of an old subway car, while Daryl runs off after Dog who had bolted from the walkers.
Every member of the group manages to scramble to safety except Maggie who is grabbed by the walkers and pulled from the train car as Negan watches on and leaves her to die.
Episode 2 preview
- Episode 2 of The Walking Dead season 11 will air on AMC at 9pm ET/PT on Sunday, August 29th.
Alternatively, fans in the US can watch episode 2 now with AMC+ as new episodes are being released a week early for fans subscribed to the service.
AMC+ plans start from $4.99 per month and a seven-day free trial is also available.
Fans here in the UK can watch episode 2 one day after its US premiere on Disney+, meaning episode 2 will be made available on Monday, August 30th.
The synopsis for episode 2, which is titled Acheron: Part II, hints at an even more stressful chapter for the gang as it reads:
“The group discovers a member did not make it to safety inside the subway car. Surrounded by walkers, going back out into the tunnel to search is a guaranteed death wish. All eyes are on Negan as the rule of survival shifts. It is no longer No Man Left Behind. The motto now is We Keep Going. With very little ammo and energy remaining, the group must ready themselves as the walkers have found a way inside the subway train. Meanwhile, Daryl is in his own intense hellish situation trying to find Dog and finding more than he expected; and Yumiko challenges the process at the Commonwealth outpost, which threatens her future and that of Eugene, Ezekiel, and Princess.”
