With a grand prize of £50,000, you’d assume it’d be pretty tempting for the islanders to want to keep the cash for themselves. We’re revisiting seasons 1-7 to find out if anyone actually has ‘stolen’ the cash on Love Island.
Would you split the 50k or nab it for yourself?
Love Island cash prize explained
If you’re a Love Island fanatic, you’ll already know all of this. For the unfamiliar, the winners of Love Island walk away with a hefty prize of £50,000 – think of all the things that you could buy with that!
Usually, the islanders have a choice between splitting the cash with their S/O or ‘stealing’ the 50k for their own pocket. It’s kind of deemed as a test of sorts – were they in it for love or the money?
Have any of the reality TV show stars actually taken the money for themselves?
Has anyone ever ‘stolen’ the money on Love Island?
To our surprise, the answer is no.
In the history of Love Island, an islander is yet to bag the money for themselves. Perhaps it really is all about the love?
With that being said, Jessica Hayes, who won the show in 2015, has since disclosed that she wished she had kept the money, according to The Mirror – yikes!
The most recent pair to split the 50k prize was, of course, 2020 winners Paige Turley and Finley Tapp.
Before that, Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea won the series, with Greg deciding to split the money.
In 2018, Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer also divided the winning prize.
The Love Island final is on tonight
The 2021 series of Love Island is ending tonight (23rd August) and we can’t wait to see who will take home the grand prize.
There are four couples remaining in the villa: Toby and Chloe, Kaz and Tyler, Faye and Teddy, and Liam and Millie.
As per usual, you can watch Love Island tonight from 9pm.
Do you think the winning couple will split the money?
