Leon Bailey labelled Danny Ings ‘world class’ on his Instagram story after Aston Villa beat Newcastle 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

In what was his home debut in Villa colours, Ings marked the occasion with a quite spectacular overhead kick to open the scoring on the day.

After netting on his debut during the defeat against Watford, this goal was certainly a lot special, not just because of the quality, but given that it came alongside three points and a clean sheet.

After the game, Ings posted a three-word message on Instagram to his goal by stating: “What a feeling”.

Southampton striker Michael Obafemi wrote in the comments section “Making me proud.”

Whilst Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool midfielder, Jamie Redknapp, issued a two-word response by adding: “Stop it.”

And given that Ings didn’t take Villa’s penalty, which was converted by the club’s usual taker Anwar El Ghazi, former Republic of Ireland international David Meyler wrote: “Should have taken the pen lad. Got you up in fantasy.”

It’s quite the start for Ings at Villa and that’s why those in the B6 boardroom paid such big-money for his goalscoring talents.

Given that Ollie Watkins is still trying to recover from a sore knee, it will be interesting to see how he fits in alongside Ings in Villa’s XI.

During pre-season, Dean Smith had been trialling two men up top, but of course, as Watkins proved at Brentford, he can also play out wide.

Either way, with Ings firing on all cylinders, Villa have quite the attack going forward and a much better team after the departure of a certain individual.
