The world is waiting for Attack on Titan season 4 part 2, but thankfully more information on the release date has now been revealed!
For Q1 2021, there was one series that stood on the pinnacle of global entertainment, the final season of Attack on Titan.
Following the release of episode 75 on March 29th, 2021, the official Attack on Titan Twitter page confirmed that the anime would return for another cour.
Whilst fans around the world were ecstatic by this news, not many of us were too surprised. This is for the simple reason that the series has not yet adapted the entirety of the manga, leaving plenty of source material left to use.
So, when will ‘Attack on Titan: Season 4 Part 2’ release around the world?
Attack on Titan: Season 4 Part 2 release date…
- On August 22nd, it was officially confirmed that Attack on Titan season 4 part 2 will release worldwide in January 2022.
The AOT Twitter page stated that the series would return “This Winter” after the conclusion of episode 75.
This week, the page would then confirm that the colossal anime series would enter its final stage in January 2022.
Assuming that the series will remain the same programming block in Japan, an early prediction would be that episode 76 will launch onto streaming platforms on Sunday, January 9th or Sunday, January 16th, 2022.
Interestingly, it was also revealed that an OAD episode from the perspectives of different characters will be broadcast in Japan, prior to the premiere of season 4 part 2.
It’s not Attack on Titan Season 5…
We should note that there was some confusion back in March with fans on social media stating that the return of Attack on Titan would be season 5.
This is not the case, with the official announcement confirming without any doubt that the series will return as a second part to season 4.
It is worth remembering that for the entirety of the promotional campaign for Attack on Titan season 4, it was labelled as the “final season.”
However, what happens if the remaining episodes don’t adapt the entirety of the manga?
Attack on Titan: The Final Movie?
If Attack on Titan season 4 part 2 does not completely adapt the manga, then the only option left is that the final chapters of the manga will be adapted into one massive anime movie.
Whilst most fans won’t like the idea of Attack on Titan not concluding with the series, there are two reasons why a final movie could be Plan B.
Firstly, the ending to the manga series, which was released in June, wasn’t particularly well-received by fans. Even with the extra pages that Isayama added, the concluding chapters left a lot to be desired – something that MAPPA studios will need to address in the anime.
Concluding season 4 of the anime with enough remaining chapters for a movie would be advantageous to MAPPA either fleshing out the original ending or giving the studio enough time to create their own.
This would also be thanks to the incredible success of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, the movie that broke countless box office records in Japan and landed at the highest-grossing movie of 2020.
Considering the revenue generated from Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, it would be safe to assume that the temptation of breaking those records (as Attack on Titan surely would) could be too much.
