The British adaptation of the Belgian crime series Professor T is preparing to conclude its first season this weekend.

Ben Miller stars as the titular Professor Jasper Tempest – a criminologist who aids the authorities with investigations from his lecturing position at Cambridge University. The Death in Paradise star unites with Emma Naomi’s Lisa Donckers, who is a former pupil of Tempest’s, in season 1’s plot and we explore if BritBox will want to deliver a second serving.

Will Professor T Return for Season 2?

  • BritBox has yet to renew Professor T for a second season, despite the show’s looming season 1 finale.

Professor T received mediocre reviews as it failed to hit the mark with critiques and fans of the original series, where cheap tropes seemed to be the show’s undoing.

Nevertheless, the original Belgian series that first aired in 2015 delivered a three-season run with Koen De Bouw’s Professor Teerlinck at the helm. This suggests that there is plenty more material for the British adaptation to work with, possibly fueled by more original ideas from creators Matt Baker and Malin-Sarah Gozin.

What Could Season 2 Be About?

If season 2 of Professor T was given the green light, we would surely see Miller’s white-gloved protagonist return for another dose of crime-solving, delivered with perfection.

Season 2 could also delve deeper into the professor’s troubled childhood with his mother, Adelaide, played by Frances de la Tour.

We could also see the will-they-won’t-they romance blossom between Naomi’s Donckers and her colleague Dan Winters (Barney White), despite the former’s last-minute retreat from their first date.

The series was criticized for using a violent scene in the first episode as some sort of initial hook to gain the audience’s attention and many critics hope that the show will mature for its possible second season.
