Harry Winks had a difficult night for Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.
Spurs kicked off their Europa Conference League campaign with a defeat away to Pacos de Ferreira, losing 1-0 in Portugal.
A number of senior Tottenham players were selected by Nuno Espirito Santo but virtually none of them – including Winks – gave stellar accounts of themselves.
In fact, the 25-year-old conceded possession for the Lilywhites just before the game’s decisive goal.
This performance seemed to epitomise Winks over the last 18 months or so, with the Tottenham midfielder suffering in a big way since Mauricio Pochettino – who brought him through – left the club.
As a result, there’s been a lot of speculation about the player leaving North London, with the likes of Aston Villa reportedly keen.
The player has decided to stay and fight for his place and here’s how some fans have reacted to this:
He should go
As noble as it is to fight for your place with your boyhood club, sometimes it’s futile.
There’s just no way he’s going to play regularly under new Spurs boss Nuno and if regular football is his objective, quitting definitely makes sense, even if it hurts him.
And besides, leaving still might be in his plan.
There’s a lot of falsities written about players at this stage of the summer, with a week left in the transfer window, and there’s nothing to say that a move couldn’t still materialise.
