The ‘Given’ franchise is arguably the most popular BL drama out there, so here is everything we know about season 2, the movie and OVA episode!

After more than a year off-stage, our favourite boyband finally returned for another incredible concert of emotions earlier this year.

Given: The Movie premiered around the world back in February on the Crunchyroll streaming platform to a fantastic reception.

Now, new information on the upcoming OVA episode has been revealed, leaving fans curious as to how to watch the entire franchise’s titles.

Given season 2…

  • At the time of writing, Given has not been officially renewed for season 2, but the anime series is expected to return for an encore.

Unfortunately, there is no official word from Studio Lerche on the future of the anime series, but the future does appear bright for the fan-favourite series.

This is because the original manga series is still ongoing, with volume seven scheduled to launch in Japan on December 1st, 2021. This means that there should be plenty more source material to come that can be adapted into at least one more season of the anime.

The Given anime series is also easily popular enough to merit a second season; currently scoring an 8.4/10 on IMDB, 8.35/10 on MyAnimeList and 4.9/5 on Crunchyroll.

The only potential problem is that the manga only has two completed story arcs, both of which were adapted in season 1 and the movie respectively.

A third arc will reportedly focus on Hiiragi and Shizusumi’s relationship but as this is still being produced in the manga, it may be a long wait to see this adapted into a second anime season.

Based on the current manga release schedule and the production timeline from previous Given titles, fans shouldn’t expect a season 2 premiere until at least Summer 2022, if not 2023.

Given anime movie…

After the conclusion of season 1, it was announced that the Given anime would return in the form of a sequel movie.

The movie, which was titled ‘Untitled’, premiered in Japanese theatres in August 2020, before releasing worldwide via the Crunchyroll streaming service on February 2nd, 2021.

The 59-minute movie is available to watch for free on the streaming platform, as is the entirety of season 1.

Given OVA episode…

Recently, you may have seen Given trending on social media and this is because of the announcement concerning an upcoming OVA episode.

The special episode is titled ‘Uragawa no Sonzai’ (Can’t Say Goodbye, I’m Still Drifting With Your Echoes) and will tell the “other side” of Mufuyu and Ritsuka that wasn’t shown in the movie.

At the time of writing, the OVA is scheduled to release in Japan on December 1st, 2021, where it will be shipped as a DVD with the seventh manga volume.

Crunchyroll has not yet confirmed that the OVA will be available to stream internationally from this date.
