Dundee United have confirmed the signing of Manchester United and Wales midfielder Dylan Levitt on a season-long loan as Thomas Courts continues to strengthen his side ahead of the transfer window closing.

Levitt, who has nine caps for Wales, has also had stints on loan with Charlton and Croatian side Istra 1961 after making his United debut in a Europa League tie with Astana in 2019.

The 20-year-old was part of the Wales squad at Euro 2020, facing eventual winners Italy, and said he sees the move to Tannadice as an “important part” of his development towards a first-team player at Old Trafford.

“I am excited to be here,” Levitt said. “As soon as I heard United were interested it was a move I wanted to happen.

“I am here to help Dundee United achieve their goals but I also see this as an important part of my continued personal development.”

The Manchester United Academy graduate will wear the number 19 jersey for the Arabs and could make his debut this weekend against Tayside rivals St. Johnstone.

Manager Courts thinks Levitt will bring “something different” to his side and thinks he should fit in well with his existing complement of midfielders, telling United’s official website: “Dylan is a versatile midfielder who enjoys controlling games and producing assists for attacking players.

“Already a Welsh international, and part of their recent Euros squad, he’s a young player with ambitions to play at the top level.

“I believe that he’s capable of playing with all of our existing midfielders, but he brings something different, which will give us better options and more flexibility for the season ahead.”

Levitt, who joined United at the age of eight, is the tenth player to make a temporary move away from the Premier League club during the summer transfer window.

Despite his involvement for Wales at this summer’s Euros, he returned early for the start of pre-season with the first-team and featured in both of the friendlies against Derby County and Queens Park Rangers.
