Tottenham Hotspur are now preparing a move to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar now Arsenal are signing Martin Odegaard instead.
That’s according to The Mirror, who claim that Tottenham are set to make their move to sign Aouar before the transfer deadline.
Arsenal were interested too, but they’re now signing Real Madrid’s Odegaard to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The Gunners no longer need a creative midfielder, and Tottenham seemingly sense a window of opportunity to go in and get Aouar.
Tottenham wouldn’t have wanted a late-window bidding war, especially with their bitter North London rivals, and may have been holding back for that reason.
With Arsenal out of the way though, Tottenham could have a clear path to signing Aouar in a deal worth around £30million.

Lyon are believed to have made Aouar available alongside a number of other players following Sunday’s humiliation at Angers.
Tottenham fans may fear signing another midfielder from Lyon given how Tanguy Ndombele has failed to live up to his billing, but Fabio Paratici may fancy adding Aouar’s technical ability and creativity to this Tottenham side.
