Rangers are still hoping to add a new midfielder and a forward to Steven Gerrard’s squad before the transfer window closes at the end of August, as reported by The Athletic.
Is the momentum shifting in Glasgow?
While Rangers are licking their wounds following a run of three successive defeats and a disastrous Champions League exit at the hands of Malmo, optimism on the other side of the city is growing by the week.
The Celtic side that looked aimless, gutless and directionless during the final few months of the Neil Lennon era suddenly appear to be anything but.
With five wins in a row and 18 goals scored along the way, the left-field appointment of Ange Postecoglou is starting to resemble a masterstroke.
What’s more, the signings of Joe Hart, Liel Abada and the exceptional Kyogo Furuhashi have improved Celtic’s starting XI no end.
That’s without mentioning James McCarthy, a boyhood Hoops fanatic with years of Premier League experience under his belt, and £4.5 million centre-back Carl Starfelt.
Eredivisie Golden Boot winner Giorgios Giakoumakis could arrive too, alongside Croatia international Josip Juranovic.
Could Rangers still sign two new players this month?
In stark contrast, Rangers have not spent a single penny in transfer fees this summer.

Fashion Sakala, Nnamdi Ofoborh and John Lundstram all arrived on free transfers.
And after missing out on a £30 million windfall that only Champions League football would have provided, the focus has turned from incomings to outgoings with Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Glen Kamara dominating the column inches.
According to reports, Rangers will consider £9.5 million bids for Ianis Hagi too.
The Athletic claim that Gerrard still wants a new forward and another midfielder before the end of this month amid links to Juan Alegria, Joey Veerman and Huddersfield Town play-maker Juninho Bacuna.
Bacuna, however, is valued at £5 million. Veerman, even more so. Rangers may have little choice but to cash in on Kent or Morelos before they are in a position to seriously consider another high-cost signing.
Gerrard is walking a financial tightrope right now and maintaining balance, more so than ever, is essential.
