Tottenham Hotspur are ramping up their attempts to sign Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic as a deal for Kurt Zouma seems unlikely.
That’s according to The Times, who claim that Milenkovic is now the prime defensive target for Fabio Paratici at Tottenham.
West Ham United have backed away from a deal for the Serbian, leaving Tottenham as the frontrunners for his signature.
Milenkovic, 23, can play as a centre back or right back and has been branded ‘extraordinary’ by Fiorentina teammate Pol Lirola, offering versatility to Nuno Espirito Santo if Tottenham do get a deal done.
Spurs also fancy signing Milenkovic’s fellow Serbian and Fiorentina teammate Dusan Vlahovic, but that looks like being a much more difficult deal.
Speaking of difficult deals, the report adds that Tottenham do fancy signing Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma, but that looks unlikely.

Relations between Chelsea and Tottenham are not great to say the least, and the Blues seemingly don’t fancy letting Tottenham sign Zouma.
It’s clear that Tottenham want another defender before the transfer deadline later this month, and Milenkovic now looks like being the most likely addition as Paratici and co move away from Zouma.
