Harry Kane has not been happy at Tottenham Hotspur for the past 18 months and believes Daniel Levy broke a promise to let him leave this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Kane regularly held meetings with the Spurs chairman during that period to express his concerns directly to Levy. He believes the north London outfit have failed to match his ambitions, and feels left down by their inability to challenge for trophies.
Levy held a crunch summit with Kane at the start of last season to try and ease the striker’s concerns. In the meeting, Levy is alleged to have assured Kane that Tottenham would allow him to secure a transfer if they failed to qualify for the Champions League or win a title.
Levy told Kane that Tottenham would be in a position to win silverware or finish in the top-four last season. But while they reached the Carabao Cup final, Spurs finished the Premier League campaign in seventh. Everton also eliminated them from the FA Cup and Dinamo Zagreb came from behind to win in the Europa League.
Tottenham’s failures in 2020/21 proved to be the final straw for Kane, and again told Levy he wants to leave. Ideally, he also wanted to depart on amicable terms with Levy and the club’s supporters. However, he now believes the Spurs chairman has pulled a U-turn on his promise. Thus causing friction with fans, with some taunting him against Manchester City.
Kane’s camp additionally insist the striker’s controversial late return for pre-season training was down to a miscommunication from the club. They claim Spurs withdrew an agreement for an extended break after Euro 2020 without directly informing the England captain.
Our view: Kane saga a sorry mess for Tottenham and Levy
Kane’s intended departure from Tottenham has been a rather sorry mess that Levy is being held responsible for, it seems. The Spurs chairman and striker have known for some time where each other stands, but the message appears to have gotten lost along the way.
As a result, Kane is pushing for a move away under the assumption Levy would sanction it. But the Tottenham chief is resolute in his desires to keep a vital piece of the puzzle in north London.
The Telegraph even report Levy is no longer answering calls to discuss Kane’s Tottenham future. If that is the case and he remains at the club beyond August 31, the pair will have to hold further talks. Even if those discussions are unlikely to be comfortable for either one.
