Sergio Oliveira wants to stay at FC Porto despite Jorge Mendes’ ongoing attempts to lure the Portugal international to Wolverhampton Wanderers, as reported by A Bola.

Another summer, another Gestifute client making himself comfortable at Molineux.

Barcelona loanee Francisco Trincao joined forces with the likes of Ruben Neves, Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto earlier this summer, putting pen to paper on a season-long deal with Bruno Lage’s side.

With just two weeks of the window remaining, we can only imagine that Mendes’ phone bill is about to go through the roof as his clients continue to dominate the gossip columns.

Arguably the most influential agent in world football is testing the water for James Rodriguez, Martin Braithwaite and, if reports are to be believed, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Shifting Oliveira, however, is proving to be easier said than done.

Will Wolves miss out on £17m Sergio Oliveira?

Fiorentina have been priced out of a deal for the box-to-box midfielder, while Tottenham Hotspur’s interest was about as fleeting as their pursuit of Gennaro Gattuso.

What’s more, Oliveira has shown no real interest in leaving the club who made him the youngest debutant in their history back in 2009.

The 13-capped international has spent the last two decades at Porto and after enjoying the best season of his career in 2020/21 – a man hardly renowned for his goal-scoring ability found the net 20 times from central midfield – Oliveira is determined to stay put and wrestle the Primeira Liga title from Sporting Lisbon’s grasp.

According to JN, Wolves were willing to pay £17 million for Oliveira.

Head coach Bruno Lage is a big fan, identifying the 29-year-old as someone capable of bringing experience and horsepower to an often one-paced engine room.

But Oliveira will only consider leaving Porto for what A Bola refer to as an ‘irresistible offer’.

And Wolves cannot match the Champions League football – or the prospect of silverware or domestic glory – on offer at the Estadio do Dragao.
