Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation concluded with episode 11 of season 1 in March 2021 and now fans are wondering if the series will return for season 2.

Mushoku Tensei is an anime adaptation of a novel series which released in 2012. While the novel and manga series are written by Rifujin na Magonote, the anime is written and directed by Manabu Okamoto.

The series follows the story of a man, who has never done much with his life. He is killed by a speeding truck and is reborn as a baby named, Rudeus Greyrat. In his new life, he has powers and so works with them to be more fulfilled than he was in his past life.

Will there be a season 2 of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless reincarnation?

Mushoku Tensei has not been officially renewed for season 2 at the time of writing. However, HITC does believe it will return. For the time being, the anime is scheduled to return on Funimation for season 1 part 2, on 3rd October 2021. To clarify, this is not season 2 but rather the second half of season 1. (Please see the next section for further information).

Estimations by fans of the anime predict season 2 will release as early as 2022. Monsters & Critics have said, “The chances of a Mushoku Tensei Season 2 announcement taking place in September 2021 seems high”.

Therefore we can expect to hear more news on season 2’s release once season 1 has finished the second half of its cour. The anime has done incredibly well for its first season ranking at 8.41/10 on MyAnimeList and 8.7/10 on IMDB, so high demand will likely fuel the company to renew the series.

For now, season 2 has not been officially confirmed but rumours are going around to say it is in production. Popular leak and rumour site ‘Sugoi Lite’ posted on their Twitter on 5th May 2021, to say that seasons 2 & 3 are in production. No official sources have confirmed this at this time.

Mushoku Tensei: Season 1 part 2

That’s right, season 1 is not over yet. Mushoku Tensei season 1 is what you would call a ‘split cour’, a term used for anime series meaning a season will have a break or “split” between airing episodes. Essentially like a hiatus. A release date of 3rd October 2021 has been confirmed by Funimation.

Therefore season 1 has not finished but is waiting for its next cour – the series will have 23 episodes in total. Part 2, is expected to release in October 2021. Originally it was meant to release in July. However, staff had said the delay was caused due to “various circumstances”.

Plot and cast for Season 1 part 2

As fans will have seen at the end of the 11th episode after Rudeus kills the monster he leaves the city with Eris and Ruijerd (Now Supard) in tow, as they travel to the coastal city found on the edge of the Demon continent. At the same time, Roxy also arrives at the continent with Pauls former companions as they look for Rudeus.

Part 2 is expected to pick up where episode 11 left off. As Rudeus and the other two arrive in the coastal city, it is expected that Rudy may finally get a chance to meet Sylphiette as well as the empress of the Demon continent.

While all of this is going on Roxy is aware of the situation with Pauls family and will likely join up with Rudeus and the company to rescue the remaining members of the Greyrat family.

As the series left off on somewhat of a cliffhanger, implying the shown characters would continue, it would be safe to expect the following characters and cast to return:

  • Yumi Uchimiya (Japanese) and Madeline Morries (English) as Rudeus Greyrat.
  • Konomi Kohara (Japanese) and Michelle Rojas (English) as Roxy.
  • Ai Kakuma (Japanese) and Lindsay Seidel (English) as Eris.
  • Daisuke Namikawa (Japanese) and Christopher Wehkamp (English) as Ruijerd.

The remaining cast and crew from Season 1 Part 1, many of which are expected to return, can be seen here.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation adaptation from the novel

Mushoku Tensei holds 26 light novels in total, the first season of the anime is only considered to be a prologue to the manga series and doesn’t go in-depth to the power that is shown in the novels “Six-Sided Universe franchise“.

The anime adaptation has stayed true to its manga counterpart which has been well received by fans of the novel version who then followed the anime series.

Fans are enjoying seeing characteristics of Rudeus’ from his past life carried into his new life, as well as his character development overall. Though some traits are shown, may not be for the faint-hearted.

It is thought that the second cour will show a continuation of the anime reflecting the events of volume 4-6, which will end on the 23rd episode, to which point the anime will deviate from the manga.
