Everton are at risk of missing out on signing Andreas Pereira this summer as Manchester United look to progress talks with Flamengo over a loan transfer, according to Goal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Old Trafford outfit are striving to offload a handful of players before the market closes. Discussions are underway to send Pereira to Flamengo on a season-long deal after the Brazilian side tabled an offer for the 25-year-old.

Pereira is considering leaving Manchester United this month to secure more regular game time and strengthen his World Cup hopes. The midfielder made his international debut in September 2018, but has failed to feature in any subsequent Selecao squad.

Everton have made concrete efforts to sign Pereira after Lazio elected against purchasing the Manchester United midfielder this summer. TNT Sports report the Toffees Director of Football Marcel Brands has put a proposal on the table at Old Trafford.

But Manchester United are persisting with talks to send Pereira to Flamengo, rather than Everton. The Red Devils want a guaranteed fee for the temporary move, which Flamengo have requested includes an option to buy. The upfront fee is currently holding up the deal.

Goal note Lazio held a £21m clause in their season-long deal with United for the 2020/21 season. He made 26 Serie A appearances while in Rome, yet only started three, and offered one goal plus two assists.

His Manchester United record is only marginally superior with four goals and five assists in 75 appearances across all competitions. Yet, despite his limited output and difficult Lazio spell, TNT Sports report Manchester United refused to lower their purchase clause.

Everton face huge test to beat Flamengo to Manchester United’s Pereira

Everton appear to face a huge test to beat Flamengo to signing Pereira from Manchester United, despite Brands’ offer. The Toffees bid will likely have had to match the purchase clause Lazio held last season to sign the Brazilian.

But Everton do not have the funds available to take a £21m gamble on a player with a record like Pereira’s. The Athletic report the Blues are vulnerable to FFP after past overspending and failing to recoup fees for those sold.

Manchester United also seem confident that Flamengo can purchase Pereira next summer. Given the Old Trafford hierarchy are focusing negotiations on the upfront instalment the Rubro-Negro can offer for the £30,000-per-week midfielder.
