Ian Wright was totally in awe of Paul Pogba’s performance for Manchester United against Leeds United last weekend.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, the former Gunners striker had nothing but praise to shower down upon Pogba’s shoulders.

The magnificent midfielder demonstrated every ounce of his passing quality on the Premier League’s opening weekend at home to Leeds.

He notched up a mere four assists, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side strode to a 5-1 victory.

It was an indication of not only their intent this season, but that Pogba could truly establish himself as a great of the English game this year.

For so long pundits and fans alike have doubted whether the France international is the real deal.

There have been flashes of brilliance throughout his five-year United tenure.

However, his excellence only seems to come in small batches, causing wild debate about whether he truly is anything more than a show horse.

On the weekend, Pogba cantered, hurdled, trotted, galloped and raced around Leeds for fun.

Pogba alright with Wright

“But I believe that Pogba, if that’s his levels, this place is in for a treat,” Wright said in the aftermath of this dominative display.

“Graeme Souness cannot contain himself. For him to say ‘why can’t Pogba do that every week?’ No one can do that every week!

“But at the same time, you watch Pogba on a weekly basis, he does enough, for me, in every game to influence a game majorly.

“He was just roaming. Go and play. He’s in his sixth season. Let’s be totally honest, I don’t think I’ve seen him that good.”

Only seven other players in modern top-flight history have assisted four goals in a single match, a sign of Pogba’s five-star exhibition.

Greenwood gets the plaudits

One of the beneficiaries was Mason Greenwood, who tucked away a delightful finish in the second half following an inch-perfect ball by the Frenchman.

“We’ve got to mention Mason Greenwood,” continued Wright.

“What I saw of him the other day was almost like ‘right, he gets it.’

“He’s focusing, he’s blasting now. The way he played. The way he obviously understands Pogba, who was amazing.”

Like Pogba, the young centre-forward could be set for a career-defining campaign.

Permitted he is picked regularly by Solskjaer, continues to hit the target with laser-like precision and stays fit.

With the World Cup just around the corner, Greenwood needs all these notes to stay in tune if Gareth Southgate is to select him.
