According to the Daily Record, Ange Postecoglou has called Georgios Giakoumakis in an attempt to bring the striker to Celtic.
What’s the story?
Well, if Postecoglou pulls this off, it would be an immense signing.
The 6-cap Greece international has been phoned by the Celtic boss, and by the sounds of it, he liked what was said.
Interestingly, the Daily Record believe Giakoumakis was impressed by Postecoglou’s approach and is also keen on the prospect of spearheading Celtic’s attack.
The 26-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season.
As a result, VVV-Venlo are believed to be happy to take £2.5m for their No.99.
It was Postecoglou himself who led the pursuit, and wanted to call Giakoumakis personally to outline his vision for him.
Who is Georgios Giakoumakis?

For a start, Giakoumakis is lethal in front of goal.
He scored 29 goals in 33 games last season for the Dutch outfit, which is a simply remarkable return.
At 26, he’s also at an age where he should be about to enter his prime.
However, if we were Postecoglou, we’d be slightly concerned about his goal record elsewhere.
Giakoumakis hasn’t exactly hit his VVV-Venlo heights for other clubs throughout his career.

The Greek forward scored three goals in 48 games for AEK Athens, and 15 in 67 outings for AO Platanias, which is slightly better.
In total, Giakoumakis has scored 55 goals in 183 career games.
Having said this, no matter what has happened in the past, it would make sense to only judge him on his most recent efforts.
In that respect, it sounds like Celtic may be getting a bargain for just £2.5m.
