Fabrizio Romano has said on The Arsenal Lounge that Nuno’s Tottenham Hotspur and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have made contact with Houssem Aouar’s agent.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has said that Arsenal wanted to sign Aouar from Lyon last summer.
The Gunners have retained their interest in the France international midfielder.
The Guardian and SkySport journalist has added that Tottenham are in contact with the agent of the Lyon midfielder and have taken a big step in a potential transfer deal, but Arsenal are also in contact.
Romano said on The Arsenal Lounge: “Aouar is a player they (Arsenal) love. They like Aouar. They are still waiting to see what happens with Lyon.
“It is a completely different situation when they wanted the player last summer, but it was not easy to find an agreement with the player and Lyon at the end of the window.
“But now he could still be an opportunity for Arsenal and for Tottenham. They are both in contact with his agent.
“So, they are still looking at the situation, and if Lyon will give the green light in the coming days, he could become an option for Arsenal too.”
Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur?
Aouar is a very good player who has the potential to get even better.
After all, the Frenchman is only 23.
Moreover, the midfielder was described as “incredible” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on BBC Sport in November 2018.
That is some praise indeed.
Aouar would be a good signing for Arsenal or Tottenham at the right price.
Both Arsenal and Tottenham are massive clubs and are based in London, and both would be very tempting for Aouar.
It will be interesting to see which club Aouar chooses, if indeed both Arsenal and Spurs make formal bids for the Lyon star this summer.
Aouar scored seven goals and gave three assists in 23 Ligue 1 starts last season, and scored three goals and gave four assists in 23 league starts in 2019-20.
