The Times have reported how Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy reacted when he heard that Everton wanted to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton last summer.

What’s the story?

It has been reported that Tottenham paid Southampton £15 million for Hojbjerg last summer.

Spurs chairman Levy felt that £15 million was the value of the Denmark international given his age and length of contract at the Saints at the time.

The English businessman was then informed that Everton wanted to sign the 26-year-old midfielder and were willing to pay £18 million.

What was Levy’s reaction?

According to The Times, the Tottenham chairman ‘just dug in, pointing out Spurs was the Dane’s preferred destination’.

What was the result?

Hojbjerg moved to Spurs… for £15 million.

Did Everton miss out?

Hojbjerg did well for Spurs last season and established himself as a key figure in the team.

The Denmark international scored two goals and gave four assists in 38 Premier League games.

The former Southampton star would have been a good signing for Everton and would have made the Toffees better and more solid in the middle of the park.

Everton did sign Allan from Napoli last summer, but the Brazil international is 30 now and made 23 league starts last season due to injury issues.
