‘FCC’ Rumors lyric explained
Listen carefully and you’ll hear Up rapper Cardi B spit: “Last time I got freaky the FCC sued me.”
The 28-year-old is, of course, referring to the GRAMMY 2021 performance of WAP, which received FCC complaints for its ‘explicit’ nature.
As per Rolling Stone, the performance stirred so much controversy, the FCC reported that they received over 1,000 complaints – Yikes!
Alongside Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi performed the hit song ‘WAP’ at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards back in March. The act was later stamped as “raunchy”, “filth” and even “disgusting.”
One example of a complaint read: “I have hesitated to file this complaint, but in an environment where Mr. Potato Head, Dr. Seuss, Peter Pan, etc. are being removed from public viewing, it is hard to tolerate much less stomach the performance of Cardi B at the Grammys. It was disgusting and thought of young children possibly viewing it horrifies me.“
However, in true Cardi fashion, the rapper took the criticism in her stride. At the time, she reportedly reacted to the complaints by tweeting a gif of Wendy Williams alongside some laughing emojis.

Other ‘Rumors’ lyrics explored
‘Rumors’ is jam-packed with references to pop culture, along with subtle hints towards Lizzo’s love life.
During one verse, Truth Hurts artist Lizzo sings: “No I ain’t f**k Drake yet.”
These lyrics are in reference to her appearance on Busy Philipps’ show Busy Tonight in 2019. During the show, she revealed that she had, in fact, tried to slide into Drake’s DMs.
“I was drunk and I was just like, ‘Let’s just see if this motherf***er can sing.’ And I sent him a DM…this was a while ago. And then I unsent it, and then he followed me after that.”
Similarly, Lizzo slid into Chris Evans DMs – we all know how that one went down!
Other lyrics: “Readin’ s**t on the internet / My smoothie cleanse and my diet” tie to recent rumors surrounding Lizzo promoting cleanse juices and other ‘health’ tools.
