Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has questioned Edu’s signings of David Luiz and Willian at Arsenal.
The Gunners have made some real blunders in the transfer market in recent years, and it’s hard to argue that Willian and Luiz haven’t been two of the worst signings.
There are comparisons to be drawn between both players. They’re both Brazilian, they were both over 30 when they signed, they were both joining from Chelsea and they’re both Kia Joorabchian clients.
Carragher believes that the signings weren’t only poor, but they were stupid from Edu.
What’s been said?
Carragher was speaking about Arsenal’s transfer business in recent years.
“When you’re talking about Edu as the Sporting Director, you’re bringing David Luiz in and Willian in, rejects from Chelsea. I’m scratching my head thinking I can’t get behind that, it doesn’t work.” Carragher said.
“Why are you buying rejects from Chelsea over 30? Giving them big deals where you can’t get rid of them, that’s a mistake, that’s a mistake before it’s happened, it’s just stupid. It is stupid, David Luiz has gone for nothing, Willian will go for nothing.”

Hard to argue
As much as it’d be nice to offer a counter-argument to Carragher’s points, it’s hard to make a compelling argument.
Luiz was good in patches, but he left on a free and cost the Gunners points on numerous occasions, while Willian is already being linked with a move away after just a year at the club and he was very underwhelming last season.
Sadly, these two signings haven’t gone to plan, and it’s something Edu and Arsenal need to learn from.
