Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after Southampton announced the signing of Adam Armstrong from Blackburn.

What’s the story?

Well, both the Saints and the Eagles were keen to sign Armstrong, after he scored 29 goals in all competition last season.

However, it was Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side who won the race.

Armstrong was believed to prefer a move to Selhurst Park, and Patrick Vieira’s side did see a bid rejected for the 24-year-old.

The south Londoners seemingly never sent an improved offer, whereas the Saints stumped up the £15m asking price and secured their man.

Southampton have wasted no time at all in finding a replacement for Danny Ings, who left for Aston Villa in a £30m deal.

Can’t blame Crystal Palace

If the Eagles really did walk away from negotiations, you can’t blame them.

Armstrong had just one year left on his contract, and is also unproven in the Premier League.

In that respect, £15m was a steep price to pay for a club who haven’t just been handed £30m.

Of course, Armstrong looks a real talent, who could thrive on the south coast.

However, there are better players out there to break the bank for, which Crystal Palace seem to be aware of.

Let’s see how the Selhurst Park faithful reacted after Southampton announced Armstrong’s arrival…
