According to The Athletic, Leicester have had a £15m bid accepted for Southampton colossus Jannik Vestergaard, who other Premier League clubs are targeting.
What’s the story?
Well, The Athletic believe that Tottenham, West Ham and Wolves are also interested in the 29-year-old.
Southampton are happy to sell Vestergaard, and Leicester will pay an initial £14m for the 29-cap Denmark international with £1m in add-ons.
That sum represents a loss on the £18m they paid Borussia Monchengladbach when signing the centre-back in 2018.
Interestingly, Leicester could end up paying more if they qualify for the Champions League.
The Athletic believe Vestergaard has been on Leicester’s radar for some time, and following injury to Wesley Fofana, the Foxes have made a move.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has made a wise decision – in our view – as his towering defender only has one year left on his contract.
Southampton are right to sell Jannik Vestergaard

It would’ve made sense for Southampton to wait and see if Tottenham, West Ham or Wolves also made an offer for Vestergaard.
However, if we were in charge at St Mary’s, we’d also have accepted Leicester’s offer.
Vestergaard has certainly improved in recent times, but his lack of pace has seen him caught out quite a few times.

After all, £15m is a good offer for a player who will be 30 next year.
Like they’ve done with Adam Armstrong following the sale of Danny Ings, Southampton would now be wise to reinvest the £15m in a younger alternative.
Failing that, it could be time for Mohammed Salisu to show his ability, and then that £15m could be spent elsewhere.
