Dharmesh Sheth has told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports (09/08/21 at 5:50 pm) that James Maddison is now ‘too expensive’ for Arsenal.

There have been strong rumours that Arsenal want to add an attack-minded player to their squad this season, with suggestions that Leicester City’s £70 million-rated playmaker would welcome a move to the Emirates.

At this moment in time, Ben White is the only big name Arsenal have signed this summer and fans are starting to get frustrated at their lack of business.

But a Sky reporter dealt a further transfer blow to the Arsenal faithful, with this Maddison claim that points towards the player not moving to North London this summer.

“We know they are looking for an attacking midfielder,” said Sheth. “There has been an interest in James Maddison.

“It looks like that will be a bit too expensive to do. Leicester City are under no pressure to sell.

“They still have a number of years left on his contract. He started the Community Shield against Man City.

“Brendan Rodgers has compared him to, quite subtly, to Jack Grealish. Is that his way of putting it out there ‘this is how much James Maddison is worth if Grealish is £100 million’?”

The problem facing those in the Arsenal boardroom is that they don’t just need to bring in one or two players.

They still need to fill in several positions, and on top of that, part ways with players who simply aren’t good enough.

Added with another creative player, they possibly need another defensive mind in midfield, striker, goalkeeper and right-back.

Then Arsenal supporters will raise the question as to why certain players, like Hector Bellerin, Eddie Nketiah, Mohamed Elneny, Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka and Willian, to name a few, are still at the club.
