The Norway international attacking midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal from Madrid.
Arteta is a big admirer of the 22-year-old and wants him back in his team.

Odegaard did relatively well during his loan spell at Arsenal.
The Norwegian scored one goal and gave two assists in nine Premier League starts.

Emile Smith Rowe is the only senior creative midfielder in the Arsenal squad at the moment.
Arsenal manager Arteta needs another player for that position.
If Madrid are willing to sell Odegaard and the player himself does not see a long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu, then a transfer to Arsenal this summer could well materialise.
