Calvin Johnson’s NFL career

Legendary wide receiver Calvin Johnson was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the weekend.

Johnson was selected by the Detroit Lions second overall in the 2007 NFL Draft.

In his NFL career, Johnson amassed 11,619 yards, 83 receiving touchdowns, and still holds the record for most receiving yards in a season (1,964).

He appeared in six consecutive Pro Bowls from 2010 to 2015 and received three consecutive first-team All-Pro selections from 2011 to 2013.

He is just the seventh wide receiver to be inducted as a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Johnson’s Hall of Fame enshrinement clouded by beef with Lions

Calvin Johnson’s relationship with the Detroit Lions has been strained for many years.

Johnson has been at odds with the team since he retired following the 2015 season, when he said he was forced to repay a $1.6 million portion of his signing bonus.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Lions sent Johnson a proposal to pay back the $1.6 million by paying him $500,000 a year for three years. In exchange, Johnson would have to commit to 28 hours a year of work for the team, plus a one-time donation of $100,000 to Johnson’s foundation.

However, Johnson deemed the offer inadequate. He said he wants to get back the $1.6 million he paid the Lions in full.

“I mean, it wasn’t what I paid back, put it like that… So they’re not serious,” Johnson said. “That’s all.”
