André-Frank Zambo Anguissa has been left out of Fulham’s matchday squad today amid rumours of Aston Villa and Arsenal’s interest.
Fulham, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, are playing Middlesbrough in their Championship opener on Sunday afternoon – and there is no sign of their midfield powerhouse.
This is despite the Cameron international playing Fulham’s final pre-season game of the summer against Charlton.
It has been previously suggested that both Villa and Arsenal have expressed interest in the £21.5 million player, who was one of the shining lights for a Fulham team that struggled to produce the goods in England’s top-flight last term.
Villa have been pretty busy during this transfer window and have added several players to their squad, including club-record signing Emiliano Buendia as they begin life after Jack Grealish.
As for Arsenal, their biggest signing has been Ben White, but other than that, they haven’t made the movements that fans would have wished for.
Adding midfielders has been one of the topics on the agenda for Arsenal fans, including a creative-minded one and a player to sit alongside Thomas Partey.
Once again, Partey has suffered an injury in Arsenal colours, and aside from him, Mikel Arteta has Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny to pick from in those deeper midfield roles.
That’s the midfield that played its part in the Gunners finishing outside of Europe next term, so it’s obvious a fresh face is needed, or two.
And perhaps the signs are clear that Anguissa is on his way out, but who are the clubs that are willing to put the money on the table for his bulldozing talents in midfield?
