If anything summed up Tottenham Hotspur’s summer for their fans, it was the news Danny Ings had joined Aston Villa.
As Chelsea supporters chanted gleefully about the absence of Harry Kane during last night’s pre-season friendly, it emerged that a man viewed by many Spurs fans as the ideal replacement for their want-away talisman was signing on the dotted line for another top-flight club.

Talk about a bolt from the blue.
While Tottenham have spent the past seven months being linked on and off with the Southampton striker, Ings completed shock a £30 million to Aston Villa in double-quick time.
Jack Grealish hasn’t even gone yet – at least not officially – and Villa have already spent almost £100 million on three players capable of guiding the Midlands giants into a bold new era, Ings following in the slipstream of Emi Buendia and Leon Bailey.
Compare that with the situation at Tottenham – Villa decisive, Spurs stagnant.

Tottenham fans wanted Ings in the door
Tottenham’s home-grown hero has allegedly gone on ‘strike’ in an attempt to force his way out the door and, if Kane does get his wish between now and the end of August, it’s hard to see where his replacement would come from.
According to The Telegraph, Spurs had no intention of matching Ings’ £120,000-a-week wage demands.
Furthermore, with Inter Milan stepping up their interest in Dusan Vlahovic as Romelu Lukaku edges ever closer to a second spell at Chelsea, things are looking bleak for Nuno Espirito Santo, Fabio Paratici and co.
