So, it’s nearly done. According to Sky Sports, Jack Grealish is having a medical with Manchester City today, ahead of a £100m move.

However, Aston Villa didn’t let it get to this stage without a fight.

What did Aston Villa do?

Well, as revealed by Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, the Villans actually offered Grealish more than he will be earning at Manchester City.

In our view, that is huge.

The Express believe the England international will earn £300,000-a-week under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

That is an eye-watering amount of money, one which few players in world football earn.

So, for the Villans to actually offer Grealish more than that sum speaks volumes – it would’ve made him one of Europe’s best paid players.

Solhekol adds that Aston Villa have accepted Grealish’s decision to leave, and wave him off with their best wishes.

There is said to be no bitterness whatsoever.

Of course, Dean Smith wanted his No.10 and captain to stay.

However, Sky Sports believe Grealish wanted to win titles, and his decision was not a financially motivated one.

It’s obviously a heartbreaking time to support the Villans, but there is also plenty to be positive about.

An attacking quartet of Leon Bailey, Emiliano Buendia, Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings is mouthwatering stuff, and is also a frontline capable of taking Aston Villa up a gear.

Spend some of the Grealish money on reinforcing other areas, and Smith could be about to oversee one of the most exciting seasons in Aston Villa’s history.
