Dharmesh Sheth has told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports (04/08/21 at 5:20 pm) that it’s ‘not impossible’ for Arsenal to pay straight-up cash for James Maddison.

The Sky reporter claimed that Arsenal remain ‘very interested’ in the talents of the Leicester City playmaker.

The new Premier League season is edging ever closer and Arsenal are searching for that creative talent to sparkle their team in the middle of the park.

And it could be done in the form of Maddison, who according to a Sky reporter could cost in the region of £70 million.

“Arsenal remain very interested in doing a deal for the Leicester City attacking midfielder, James Maddison,” said Sheth.

“One source has told me is that Maddison would be open to the idea – the valuation could be as high as £70 million, which would probably be unrealistic as far as Arsenal are concerned.

“Nonetheless, they are exploring ways a deal could be structured. Could it be cash, plus player route?

“A straight cash deal whilst difficult, it’s not impossible. Although, it would rely on Arsenal having to generate funds from elsewhere in their squad. We do know that Joe Willock is of interest to Newcastle. Reiss Nelson, Crystal Palace are interested in him.

“If they can start getting funds and freeing up wages, within that squad, you never know, this potential could be a goer.”

Well, if the rumours are true that Maddison does want to make the switch to the Emirates then that’s quite the coup for those in North London.

Even without European football, it perhaps shows the pull Arsenal have as a club.

But if the player is interested in a move, it’s a different story in Arsenal trying to get a deal done and having the money to do so.

This is where perhaps Arsenal lack that bite and ruthless nature to get things done in the market and sign players they need.
