According to Jeunes Footeux, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz.
What’s the story?
Well, the French news outlet believe that Diaz has been offered to many clubs, including Newcastle.
The 28-year-old is surplus to requirements under Carlo Ancelotti, and made just five starts in La Liga last season.
Now, it seems like Real Madrid are keen to offload the man they paid €22m (£19m) for.
Significantly, Newcastle are said to be interested in the 1-cap Dominican Republic international after being offered his services.
However, despite his interest, Steve Bruce does not view the attacker as a priority.
Jeunes Footeux believe Newcastle will keep Diaz in mind as a backup, in case the Magpies fail to land their first choice targets.
Who is Mariano Diaz?
You may be wondering who the 28-year-old is.
Well, Diaz was once regarded as one of the hottest forwards around, after he scored 21 goals for Lyon in the 2017/18 campaign.
Sadly, he has failed to replicate those numbers at the Santiago Bernabeu since Real Madrid activated their buyback clause.
However, there’s no denying that he has talent – lots of it.
Diaz has been likened to Harry Kane and Jermain Defoe by The Coaches’ Voice, specifically in regards to his shooting technique.
It is said that the Real Madrid No.24 likes to keep his shots low, and tries to ensure they bounce just before meeting the goalkeeper.
If Diaz ends up on Tyneside, there are many reasons to get excited.
