Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been impressing in training despite his proposed move to AS Roma collapsing, according to The London Evening Standard.
What’s the story?
It has been reported that AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Xhaka from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners were willing to sell the 28-year-old midfielder for £20 million, but Roma could not match those demands.
Now, Arsenal are planning to hand Xhaka a new contract, according to The London Evening Standard.
The report has claimed that Xhaka ‘retains a good relationship with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’.
Perhaps more encouragingly, the Switzerland international ‘has impressed in training’ after learning that his proposed move to Roma has collapsed.

Encouraging for Arsenal
Xhaka – who cost Arsenal £30 million when they signed him from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2016, as reported by Sky Sports at the time – is a regular in the team.
The 28-year-old, who did well for Switzerland at Euro 2020 this summer, made 29 starts in the Premier League and played 10 Europa League matches for the Gunners last season.

The midfielder has played a total of 161 Premier League matches for Arsenal so far in his career.
Xhaka is clearly an important player for the team, and him showing good attitude in training and looking positive is certainly encouraging.
It shows that Arsenal have retained a player who is determined to do his best for the team and will not show any signs of disappointment that he could not get a move away.
