Aston Villa are set to make a £28 million bid for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr as the Senegal international faces an uncertain future at the Premier League newcomers once more, as reported by Homme du Match.

This is a transfer rumour that raises far more questions than answers.

What does it say about the future of captain fantastic Jack Grealish amid claims the Villa skipper could take the Matt Le Tissier route rather than the Fabian Delph one?

What does it mean for Leon Bailey, the Bayer Leverkusen dynamo who underwent a medical in Miami ahead of his big-money move to the Midlands earlier this week (Daily Mail)?

Is the speedy Sarr an alternative to Bailey or someone Dean Smith plans to deploy alongside the Jamaican – and Grealish for that matter – in a thrilling front line?

The Aston Villa boss would also have to find room for Emi Buendia, the string-pulling playmaker who was arguably at his most effective on the right-hand side during his time at Norwich City.

As we said, more questions than answers.

Could Aston Villa sign Ismaila Sarr and Leon Bailey?

What can’t be disputed, of course, is the talent and potential Sarr would bring to Villa Park.

His 13 goals and ten assists helped drag Watford over the promotion line last season and, while some would question the wisdom of paying almost £30 million for someone who has played his best football in the Championship, Ollie Watkins and Matty Cash haven’t done too badly in claret and blue.

Sarr, labelled “rapid” by Senegal teammate Sadio Mane, came very close to joining Liverpool six months ago before the then-Premier League champions failed to stump up the £35 million Watford wanted for the club’s record signing.

Watford’s stance has since been strengthened by a return to the top flight. So it looks as though Aston Villa’s opening offer, in the region of £28 million, could be returned to sender.
