Celtic have now been offered the chance to sign free agent midfielder James McCarthy following his exit from Crystal Palace.
That’s according to the Daily Record, who claim that McCarthy’s name has now been put forward to Celtic with his representatives seeking a new club.
Celtic are yet to make a decision on signing McCarthy, but with Scott Brown gone, the addition of an experienced midfielder has to be appealing.
McCarthy is a boyhood Celtic fan and it’s stated that he is believed to be keen on finally joining the Bhoys after missing out on a move three years ago under Brendan Rodgers.
The problem for the 30-year-old is that he has endured injury problems for years now and has had no pre-season, with Celtic seeking players to make an immediate impact.
McCarthy made 52 appearances in two years at Palace before being released, and the Glasgow-born midfielder now fancies going home.

McCarthy has been known to go back to Scotland to watch Celtic, so it’s no huge shock that he would love a move to Parkhead.
It’s now up to Ange Postecoglou and co to decide on a deal, with McCarthy available for free and able to offer depth in a position of concern for Celtic.
