Aston Villa and Liverpool have joined the race to sign Sampdoria’s star winger Mikkel Damsgaard, with Leeds United and Tottenham also keen.

That’s according to Sport Mediaset, who claim that Villa and Liverpool are now right in the mix to sign the Dane before this month’s transfer deadline.

Enquiries are coming in from Premier League clubs, but Sampdoria would only sell for around €35million (£30million) with Massimo Ferrero looking for big money.

Damsgaard was impressive in Serie A last season with two goals and four assists for Samp, but Euro 2020 really catapulted him into the spotlight.

The 21-year-old recorded two goals and one assist in five games at Euro 2020, including a stunning free kick against England at Wembley.

A silky winger who is predominantly a left-sided winger and loves to cut inside onto his right foot, you can see why Villa may be keen on signing Damsgaard.

Manchester City are throwing money at Villa for the signing of Jack Grealish according to ESPN, and reinvesting a wedge of that cash on Damsgaard could be a masterstroke.

Damsgaard, Emiliano Buendia and Leon Bailey behind Ollie Watkins could be an unbelievable attack for Dean Smith, but Liverpool are a threat.

They know they need more attacking firepower with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah off to the Africa Cup of Nations, and Damsgaard fits the Michael Edwards mould as a talented young player with real potential.

Damsgaard is now a name to keep very close tabs on in the final weeks of the transfer window, with real potential for him to be a potential Grealish replacement.
