Carlo Ancelotti has seemingly handed Arsenal a boost in their hunt to sign Martin Odegaard this summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Real Madrid manager has ‘assured’ Odegaard that he will be an important player this season for Los Blancos.
However, the Italian coach is yet to give his word on if the Norway captain will be a starter for the club.
Odegaard left Spain last season for a loan spell at Arsenal because of a lack of regular first-team football.
The 22-year-old playmaker just started a handful of games for Madrid before the north London side offered to take the midfielder for the second half of last season.
And with Arsenal, the Madrid magician became a regular starter under Mikel Arteta. Odegaard made 20 appearances in total for the Gunners, starting 11 of them.
Arsenal must sign Odegaard this summer
Indeed, Arteta is eager to bring Odegaard back to north London this summer with a creative midfielder once again a priority for Arsenal.
Although Emile Smith Rowe has signed a new long-term contract with the club, an extra playmaker is needed at the club.
And Odegaard could, for the second season in a row, be the perfect option for Arsenal. The Scandinavian midfielder brought that creative spark the Gunners were missing for large parts of last campaign.
Although Madrid are yet to decide on what to do with the youngster, Ancelotti’s decision to not give Odegaard guaranteed minutes could play into Arsenal’s favour this summer.
And with creative options few and far between, the north London side might be able to land the Norwegian international once again.
