Mikel Arteta has stated that he is hoping Hector Bellerin and Joe Willock can ‘have their minds here and prepare here’ after speaking about the duo’s future to Arsenal’s official website.

Arsenal suffered a pre-season defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, with both players participating in the game, including Bellerin who was at fault for Tammy Abraham’s winning goal.

The error-prone right-back could be heading for the Arsenal exit door this summer as Arteta looks to clean up the mess from last season, whilst Newcastle are keen on bringing Willock back to the club.

When Arteta was asked about the right-footed duo’s future, he issued this response:

“I don’t know. I’m going to coach them and train them,” said Arteta. “And respect and look after everybody because they are our players.

“Hopefully, they can have their minds here and prepare here because they are Arsenal players and our job is to make them as good as we can.”

Well, albeit a pre-season friendly, the talk about Bellerin’s future and his performance yesterday didn’t help proceedings.

It’s perhaps a different story for Willock, who showcased his goalscoring talents at Newcastle last season and Arsenal crave that type of player in their midfield.

But he hasn’t been provided with the intended minutes that perhaps suggest that Arteta wants him on board for next season.

Given that the Gunners are looking for attacking bite in the summer market, surely it would be better if they kept Willock on board and handed him the minutes that he deserves?
