‘Justice for Cameron Herrin’ has been trending on TikTok and Twitter after fans learned that the social media star had been sentenced to 24 years following the accident that took place in 2018.

Several users have been sharing Cameron’s clip from his hearing that took place in April. It is unclear how the internet got hold of the footage, but the short clips were enough to get people talking, and it did not take long for the topic to start trending. However, there have been mixed reactions to the same.

Who is Cameron Herrin?

Cameron was a social media personality who often posted pictures and videos on TikTok and Instagram. The young star had thousands of followers on the app, and he would often show them a glimpse of his life.

Apart from posting random content, Cameron was also known for street racing. He would often upload videos of him racing while showing people the daredevil side of him.

In 2018, Cameron was arrested after he was involved in an accident that killed two.

2018’s accident revisited

In 2018, Cameron and his friend John Barrineau were racing in Tampa street on Bayshore Boulevard. During their outing, the duo got into a crash that killed 24-year-old Jessica Reisinger and her 21-month-old daughter, Lillia, who was in the stroller.

At first, Cameron pleaded not guilty. However, he later changed his statement. As per WTSP, he decided to enter an “open plea” while accepting his mistake. On the other hand, John pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide and a misdemeanor racing charge. In exchange for this, he was given six years in state prison, followed by 15 years of probation.

At the same time, John’s license was suspended for five years and he was asked to complete 200 hours of community service. Meanwhile, a decision for Cameron wasn’t made until April 2021.

During the hearing, Cameron was found guilty of two counts of vehicular homicide. The judge sentenced him to nine years in Florida state prison for the first count and 15 years for the second.

Hillsborough Circuit Judge Christopher Nash said: “There’s really nothing that the court can do that’s capable of fixing the harm that has been caused to the victims in this case.”

‘Justice for Cameron’ trends on social media

Even though Cameron was sentenced in April, people got a wind of the case after few TikTok videos, where snippets from his hearing, went viral. The video was first uploaded by a user who goes by the handle “3hki.”

Since then, the videos have got millions of views. At the same time, the hashtags ‘Cameron Herrin’ and ‘Just for Cameron Herrin’ have got millions of hits on TikTok as well.

While there are several people who are standing up for Cameron, there are others who fully support the judgment. One user wrote: “24 years you really killed him You will make of a wrong teenager who felt guilty and confessed to a hopeless criminal!”

Another added: “getting 24years for the unintentional terrible and tragic incident is not fair… We stand with Herrin cause we are humans and we all make mistakes no matter what is our race, religion, or language clemency for Cameron.”

Meanwhile, others argued: “It was not an accident. It is a crime. He speeds up the car. He broke the rules too. He was racing the car too. It is a crime.” Another user echoed similar thoughts as the comment read: “You say he deserves a second chance but the people who died didn’t have a second chance.”

As of now, there are no new updates in Cameron’s case.
